Seperate the responsibilities

Post  Admin on Sat Aug 30, 2008 6:59 pm

Whether you're still contemplating a pet or preparing to purchase one, I'm sure the word "responsibilities" has popped up on more than one occasion. A pet is a great responsibility, and oftentimes a gateway to teach children about the bigger picture; Life, death, companionship, and caring for something that cannot care for itself. Not the mention the wonders of a clean environment Smile

No matter how many family members there are, even if you're a solo pet parent, there's always a way to divvy up the chores. Of course, if you're alone in your escapade, the best way is to schedules "what day" rather than "what person".

Be creative in your divisions. If some are obviously more fulfilling than others, rotate chores. Here are some good examples.

Cleaning the cage/litterbox
Grooming the pet
Taking for walks
Choosing the toys ( Exclamation I recommend rotating toys every week to keep pets stimulated)
Feeding
Health checks

Keep things like handling away from words like "chore". Everyone who wants to be a part of the pets' life should get the opportunity to handle the pet. Anyone who doesn't want the chores, likewise, should be denied this privelage. After all, we're teaching responsibility, right?
